Peru
In the summer of 2009, I worked in Kalleda, India, teaching a course called Construction Drawing for Engineers to high school students who were interested in pursuing careers in Engineering. The intention of the course was not only to teach the students technical skills, but also to expose them to native English speakers in order to encourage them to practice and improve their language skills.
Biodigestors
I taught Construction Drawing for Engineers to 27 rural Indian students, focusing on the more technical aspects of drawing plans and sections in hand-drawing and introducing them to drafting programs like AutoCAD.
Solar-Powered Hydroponic Systems
For the younger students, I led a drawing and painting class that resulted in a world map mural in the middle school classroom. The youngest students drew animals on paper and then later traced them on their native continents.
Lambadi Tribe
During my visit, I had the great opportunity to visit the Lambadi tribe and attend a ritual animal sacrifice for a better harvest. The ritual consisted of beheading two goats and hanging them upside down in a tree to drain their blood, which was then mixed with a harvest of beans for a prayer ceremony.
